Painting Climate & Coral Reef Heavyweights
A RADF Grant from the Bundaberg Regional Council helped me get to Melbourne in 2017 to meet the kindly and world renowned scientist, Prof. Tim Flannery. The portrait which followed was my Archibald entry, though it was not selected as a finalist. I was also able to meet and paint the tremendously fascinating and cheeky 'Godfather of Coral', Charlie Veron, who invited me into his home and sat me down in the same spot where Sir David Attenborough had sat when he visited Charlie only a few months prior. Meeting both scientists has been a wonderful career highlight.
Mt Perry icon takes out Major Prize
My portrait of grazier Rod Bettiens won me the $2000 major prize in the 2017 Mt Perry Fine Art Exhibition. To model for this painting we scrambled up a steep hill to catch the last rays of afternoon light before the sun disappeared beyond the hills of picturesque Mt Perry.
